Everyone desires to have answers when they pray. This calls for the need to understand “how to start praying” because every aspect and stages of prayer are important.

  • Have Your Bible and Writing Materials with You.

The first thing to consider on how to start praying is to come to prayer prepared. This will help you maximize your prayer time.

Having your bible and writing materials besides you as you pray shows you treasure God’s leading and guidance. It is an act of faith that you expect God to speak to you.

This act of faith to hear from God will make you receive instructions and promises that are essential for the effectiveness of your prayer.

It’s good to start by reading a portion of the bible that relates to the subject of your prayer. Doing this will prepare your mind to receive God’s promises in His word for you.

With your writing materials prepared, you may begin to jot down points to pray over and scriptures that you can hold onto in prayer. this will enable you to pray with more concentration and faith.

  • Enter His Gate with thanksgiving.

It pleases God to see that we have a thankful heart. And he expects us to be grateful.

Appreciation and Thanksgiving to God is the first thing to start your prayers. You should thank God for the things he has done for you.

Singing praises to him to show your gratitude for his goodness over your life and the matter(s) you want to pray about. No matter how bad the matter might seems to be, there is something to be grateful about it.

David gave us a clue on how to pray and get results. He said, “I’ll enter his gates with Thanksgiving in my heart. I will enter his court with praise”. This is the beginning of every effective prayer.

On several occasions, the gospels record how Jesus started his prayers with  Thanksgiving.

You may do this thanksgiving in the form of songs or hymn or words. However it’s done, you must begin with the show of appreciation. Appreciation should come before the petition. Praises cause open heaven for prayers to be accepted.

Next time you put your knee on the floor, don’t forget to show gratitude to God for his goodness.

  • Forgive Others their Trespasses.

When Jesus was teaching His disciples how to pray effective prayers, he made it clear to them that forgiving others of their trespasses is an important part of prayer.

Whenever you’re about to pray and you remember any offense in your heart, it’s okay to settle the score first and forgive wholeheartedly before starting your prayer.

How to Pray According to the Bible

how to pray and get results

1 John 5:14 says, “this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us”.

Maybe you should read that again. We are confident of answered prayer if we pray according to His will. This means the tendency that our prayer will produce the result is largely dependent on praying according to God’s will.

God’s word is the revelation of His will.

It’s okay to say, praying according to His word is praying according to His will.

His word is in your bible. The bible teaches us what the will of God is. So, before you start to pray, take your bible, and search for the will of God concerning the matter. If your desire is consistent with His word, you’re on your way to praying powerful prayers that bring results.

For instance, it is not consistent with the word of God to pray that somebody loses something so you can have it. God wouldn’t answer such prayer, because it’s not consistent with the character of God.

One of the ways to know that you’re praying in line with the word of God is to pray prayers that are propelled by love. one thing you can not afford to miss in this post “how to pray and get results is that prayer is effective in an atmosphere of love.

This is how to pray according to the bible. Get a concordance, search for the keyword of your prayer and look it up in the verses of the bible that talked about it. As you do this, you’ll know what the stand of God is about the matter and this will help to guide you on what to pray and how to pray about it.

As an example, to help proper understanding.

Let’s assume, you want to pray for provision.

Pick up your Bible and search for verses that talk about Provision. As you read these verses of scripture on Provision, you’ll have an idea of what God’s desire is about provision.

You’ll realize the promises of God for provision, and perhaps, the conditions for provision. With this, you can pray and confess the Word of God according to God’s will and with faith. This will go a long way on how to pray and get result.

God is bound by His word. He’s committed to doing whatever He says. If He had said it, he meant to do it.

So, one of the secrets to having your prayers answered as soon as possible, is to learn how to pray according to the bible

Steps to Prayer that Brings Results

Just like it takes the knowledge of steps involved in writing a petition that will be honored at the court of law, so it is necessary to know the steps to prayer that bring results. The how to pray and get results are highlighted below.

  1. Have a Specific Desire

Every request or conquest begins from a desire. You cannot begin to pray without haven had a desire. Prayers that get results begin from a desire. If you don’t have it strongly imprinted in your heart, there is no point praying about it because it would be a waste of time.

However, beyond having a desire, it is needful to have a specific desire. Have you seen lions chasing their prey? They are never vague about what they want. A lion knows exactly which of the zebra it’s hunting for.

Before you close your eyes for prayer, what exactly do you want to pray about? You should be specific in your prayer; this will help you to know when the result comes. The first thing to be learned in how to pray and get results without delay is to get specific with your prayer.

In one sentence, can you express what you want?

Yes, your desire may be many. You should break them down to get specific. It’s far better to have 101 specific prayer points than to be vague when you pray.

Hannah went to the temple to pray, and he was so specific with what she wanted. Her prayer was so simple, that it could be rephrased in modern English as: “Lord, give me a boy”.

You know what happened. She got results for her prayer.

Hannah had been going to Shiloh and praying consistently about her barrenness before now, but this time around, she was specific in her prayer.

She had learned how to pray and get results by being specific.

  1. Pray Passionately

how to pray and get results

“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (James 5:16b).

The fervency of prayer is not in its loudness but its passion. That verse can be re-phrased as “The effective passionate prayer of a righteous man produces a great result”.

Therefore, you have to pray with passion, to offer effective prayers that produce extraordinary result.

To be passionate in prayer means to express your desire with great emotion in the place of prayer. It means to strongly want to get the result of your prayer.

A blind man in the bible named Bartimeaus desired to be healed desperately. When he heard Jesus was passing by, he shouted “Jesus, the son of David, have mercy on me!”.

The people around tried to stop him from calling the attention of Jesus, but he’ll not give up. He was passionate about being healed. He kept on calling to Jesus for help. He wanted to be healed desperately.

Eventually, Jesus heard him, attended to him and he was able to see.

He got his prayers answered without delay because he was passionate about his needs.

Like Bartimeaus, you should be passionate while you pray. As you do,  you’re guaranteed that your prayer will be answered.

  1. Believe that You’ll Get Result

How to pray and get results hinges on believing that your prayers will be answers. Faith believes in the seemingly impossible. No matter how impossible your prayer might seem to you, it’s not impossible for God. “For with God, nothing shall be impossible”. (Luke 1:37).

If only you can believe it, it’s possible. The possibility is not in how difficult the situation seems to be, but rather in how much you can believe.

This is what Jesus said about the power of faith:

For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. (Mark 11:23)

What you say in prayer is not impossible if you believe that it’s possible. Everything rises and falls on your faith.

A man came to Jesus, praying that his demon-possessed child be delivered. Jesus saw how difficult the man thought it can be to have his child delivered. He said to him “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” (Mark 9:23NKJV)

  1. Confess with Your Mouth What You Believe in Your Heart

The evidence that you have faith in your heart is faith in your words. Your word is the reflection of your heart. What you truly believe in your heart, you’ll confess with your mouth. The ‘how to pray and get results requires saying the same thing as what you believe.

If you have prayed to God for healing, don’t go about saying “This sickness is killing me”. “Will I ever be free from these symptoms?”. You should rather speak faith. Make positive confessions. Speak what you believe. Speak what you want to see, not what you’re seeing.

The word of God was spoken before it was written. And it was written, so it could be spoken.

When God was to create the earth, He didn’t just sit there and believing, hoping, and expecting that things will just come into reality as He desires them to be. Maybe He could have done so, but He didn’t. He had to speak out. “Let there be Light!”, He decreed, and light came into being.

Everything that came into existence came by the power of words. The desire of His heart became manifested by the spoken words. God said and God saw the manifestations.

Therefore, for anything to be made manifest, it must be spoken out.

That’s the principle. Unpleasant situations, needs, sicknesses, demons, and even Angels respond to words of faith. Beyond having it as a desire, you have to say it. Confession is a necessity for manifestation.

To bring those things which be not as though they were, they must be called forth into manifestation from the realm of the spirit where they are. That was how God, our Father, called them into reality. That is how you’ll also call them into manifestation.

The woman who had a son miraculously by the prophesy of Elijah, lost the same child.

As she was to meet Elijah to tell him of the death of the boy, Elijah;s servant met her and ask if anything was wrong, but the woman would not say any negative word, instead she made confession of faith, by saying “It is well”.

She refused to say anything other than what she believe in her heart.

  1. Obey Divine Nudges

One of the secrets that you can’t afford to ignore in learning how to pray and get results without delay is to obey divine nudges.

I guess you’re familiar with this popular hymn “ Trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey”.

Rita had been praying to God for her husband to come back home. She had tried every possible means to restore the marriage, but they all seem abortive.

One day, after prayer, Rita felt a strong nudge in her heart to send him a text message. At first, she ignored the idea since he had stopped picking her calls. But again, she thought there is no harm in trying.

Rita reached for her phone. She punched her keypad.  Amazingly, that text message melted his hardened heart and began the restoration of their marriage.

Rita’s answer to her prayer was in that divine nudge to send that text. If she had retorted, she wouldn’t have known that her miracle was in a simple act of obedience to send a text message.

When we pray, God doesn’t always announce where our answer lies. Our obedience to divine nudges in our hearts unravels the answers to our prayers.

After you must have prayed, be quick to follow whatever logical and bible-based instruction that comes into your heart. Sometimes, these instructions that come in the form of nudges might not even seem logical to us like in Rita’s case. As far as those nudges have no potential to harm us or anyone; give it a try. That might be the beginning of your answer without delay.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, told some folks at the wedding at Cana, “Whatever he tells you to do, do it”.

Every divine intervention is preceded by men’s obedience. When you fail to obey divine instructions, you forfeit divine intervention.

If those guys had not been obedient to the instructions of Christ, at the wedding at Cana, there is no way the miracle of wine would have been possible.

Obedience to divine nudges in our hearts is key to getting your prayers answered without delay.

A simple act of obedience may be all you need to turn that water to wine.

  1. Act Your Prayer

The strength of your faith is made obvious by the intensity of your work. To work doesn’t contaminate faith; rather, it reveals how much faith is in the heart. Faith cannot be without work. Faith is never passive. It’s active.

The ‘woman with the issue of blood’ worked toward her miracle according to the belief in her heart. She believed that if she could touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, she would be completely healed and she worked towards it.She pressed into the crowd.

For a sick woman, who had lost so much blood to force herself through the crowd wouldn’t be very easy. But she had to do so. She had to ‘work’ to make her faith complete.

She pressed. Christians need to press. We don’t sit down lazily believing it will just happen. We have to press. We have to work to make our faith produce results.

Jesus told the ten lepers to go and show themselves to the priest, even when they were yet to be healed.

Normally, one must be healed of leprosy before going to the priest for confirmation and other necessary ritual cleansing.

These guys were not healed yet and they obeyed.

Guess what? On their way, their leprosy was gone! That’s because they simply obeyed without rationalizing.

Faith and fear are contending forces; your actions tell what you pull to yourself.

As you move on to show ‘yourself to the priest’, believing that you’re cleansed; you call forth into reality, things in the spiritual realm. And there comes your ‘cleansing’!

Press the switch and the light will turn on. You may have it easy, but you can’t have it lazily. Your faith needs your work. Faith requires that we do all we ought to do.

Do something! Are you weak in your body, believing God for healing? Attempt what you couldn’t do before and expect a miracle. Take the bold step. Write that letter. Fix the appointment. Start the company. Like Rita, ‘send the text message’. To your faith, add work.

Jehoshaphat and some others came to Elijah the prophet, they needed water to drink in a time of drought.

As Elijah prayed, he ordered them to dig ditches all over the place in preparation for the provision of water as an answer to his prayer. eventually, the ditches were filled with water for them and their camels to drink to satisfaction.

This teaches, that whenever we pray for ‘rain’, we should endeavor to ‘dig ditches’, to receive the answer to our prayers.

  1. See Results in Your Imagination

All that you see is not all that there is. There are more than the eyes can see. To pray effective prayers for extraordinary results, you must be able to see with the eyes of your mind.

The engagement of the power of your imagination is a necessity for learning how to pray and get results fast.

Until you can see it¸ you can’t have it.

I mean, seeing it with your spiritual eyes, or you might say, in your imagination. In Jeremiah 1:11, God asked Jeremiah, “What can you see?”. He replied, “I see a rod of an almond tree”. Then in verse 12, the Lord said, “thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it”. This explains that until you can see, God is not committed to perform it.

In Genesis 15, when it was time for God to perform His promise of a child for Abram, God took him outside and said, “Look up at the heavens and count the stars — if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” (Gen 15:5 NIV). It was needful that Abram sees before God could perform His promise. So god needed to engage his imagination. The next verse says, “And Abram believed…”. That means, his seeing, contributed to his believing.

Effectual prayer requires that you start seeing your answer in your mind even before you see it physically.

Elisha had prayed for rain. Even though he only saw a cloud as small as the fist of a man. He told the king to quickly be on His way so as not to be drenched by the rain. He said, “I hear the sound of an abundance of rain”.  He saw his result in his imagination.

How to Get Prayers Answered Immediately

Having your prayers answered immediately is not as difficult as many people think. It’s as simple as asking for a glass of water after a long walk. Any passionate, empathetic person knows you need that water badly and would not deny you of it nor delay giving it to you.

If you want to get an answer immediately, let God knows you want the answer without delay and expect an immediate response. Believe that the results of your prayers are coming as soon as possible.

God is loving, compassionate and he understands what you’re passing through.

He knows when and how badly you need divine intervention. He won’t delay the answer to your prayers unnecessarily.

When Peter and John were to heal the lame man at the beautiful gate. They told him,” silver and gold we do not have, but what we have, we’ll give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise and walk”. They expected to see an immediate answer and can’t wait to see it. They exercise their faith for an instantaneous miracle by pulling the man upon his feet. They pulled him up to show they want the answer NOW. And they got the answer instantly!

If you want to know how to get prayers answered immediately by experience, go ahead and act as though your prayer is answered already. You’ll be amazed at how things will begin to work together for the reality of your expectation.

Below are acts of faith that guarantees how to have your prayers answered without delay.

  1. Write Your Testimony Like You Already Have It

how to pray and get results

I’m about to share with you a secret that has transformed many lives including myself. This always…, did I just say always? Yes, I mean always. This ALWAYS produces the desired result. If you understand this and practice it, like I always get the desired result, you’ll get result too..

This is how to do it. Let’s assume you’ve prayed to have a contract awarded to you. Imagine that it happened just the way you want it.  Take a good jotter and write as if you’re sharing the testimony of how the contract was signed to your favor. Imagine the joy with which you’ll share it. Let it reflect in the testimony you’re writing.  Then, read it as many times and for as many days as you can.

You’ll begin to see faith rising in your heart and everything will start working together for that written testimony to become a reality.

  1. Be Thankful for Anticipated Answer.

Giving thanks to God in anticipation of the answer to your prayer gives you the consciousness that God is always with you, and that things are working for your good. It’s an act of faith that God honors.

Your thankfulness is not for the adversity though, but for His love and plans for deliverance, blessings and victory. As you do this, faith mounts in your heart; then your perspective of the situation changes. Your attitude also changes. In a matter of time, the situation also changes to your expectation.

Jesus was to feed five thousand men with 5 loaves and two fishes. While he prayed to God to see a miracle, the bible says “He gave thanks,” (Matt 15:36KJV). This secret of giving thanks for the anticipated result was Jesus’ practice all through the Bible.

Again, when Jesus was to raise Lazarus who had been dead for four days, and started to be stinking already; He said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me.”(John 11:41NIV). He was being thankful for the anticipated answer.

Guess what? In the two instances of Jesus above, He got answers to His prayers immediately. You too will get an answer without delay if you’ll be thankful while you expect the answer to your prayer.

  1. Maintain a Right Mindset

Learn from Abraham, our father of faith. This is what the bible says concerning him and how he got results for his prayers.

“He was then almost one hundred years old; but his faith did not weaken when he thought of his body, which was already practically dead, or of the fact that Sarah could not have children.

His faith did not leave him, and he did not doubt God’s promise; his faith-filled him with power, and he gave praise to God.

He was absolutely sure that God would be able to do what he had promised.” (Rom 4:19-22 GNT)

From the time of prayer to the time of manifestation, there is a time of waiting. And what we do during this time of waiting has a lot to do with whether we will get results eventually or not.

Waiting time differs. It could range from seconds to hours; to days; to weeks; to months; and even to years. However, we must maintain the right mindset of faith until we get the result of our prayer.

As soon as you’ve prayed about a matter, God takes over the matter, and of course, the devil releases the matter, because he has no say about it anymore. However, he (the devil) starts to work on you (not on the matter anymore) to disconnect you from that which God is doing. He does this by attempting to inject doubt and unbelief into your heart. His strategy is to continually bring your attention to the surrounding circumstances to weaken or truncate your faith.

No matter what the surrounding circumstances may suggest. Maintain the right mindset. Do not consider negating circumstances. Continue to give glory to God for the expected blessings, and never doubt His ability and faithfulness to bring to pass whatever He has promised. As you do these, your faith will remain strong, not diminishing, and eventually produce results.

It is God’s will that you enjoy a beautiful and bountiful life that has no bound. However, you have a part to play; which is to pray, so that the kind of life you desire can be yours. Get on to the place of prayer using these steps on how to pray to get results and you’ll see your prayers getting answered without delay.
